Hydroxypure water feature sets the scene in sophisticated Fulham abode

"Being such a key feature of the development, it was imperative that the water running through the fountain stayed crystal clear, without the use of malodorous chemicals."

says Tony Fisher,
Waterco’s Division CEO, North
America & Europe.

Contemporary mansion-style living in the midst of the bustling London metropolis – Hurlingham Walk development is designed to offer its residents a lavish living environment.

Located in the fashionable inner city district of Fulham in southwest London, the apartment complex boasts luxurious interior and exterior finishes throughout each apartment and, indeed, the entire site.

A major aesthetic attraction of the Hurlingham Walk grounds is an elegant podium water feature in a private courtyard at the heart of the development. The rectangular water feature is flanked by the U-shaped apartment building.

Surrounded by low-set hedges, the concrete water feature measures approximately 9m x 3m, with five column jets set along its length. Its tank holds 5m³ of water.

Being such a key feature of the development, it was imperative that the water running through the fountain stayed crystal clear, without the use of malodorous chemicals.

It was also crucial that the sanitisation system did not cause corrosion of any of the feature’s surfaces. Therefore, the latest in chlorine free water  treatment, namely Waterco’s Hydroxypure system, was the most favourable choice by far.

The use of ozone and Perox in harmony increases active oxygen levels in the water. This synergy ensures the safety of water environments without creating harmful chemical by-products.

Installed by Fountains Direct, a leading UK fountain company that specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of both commercial and domestic fountains and water features, the Hydroxypure system meets the needs of the client and delivers spectacular results.

Fountains Direct, who have used Waterco’s Hydroxypure system for two other key projects including the prominent Muslim Burial Ground in Woking, chose the system for a number of reasons – not least being the fact it is chlorine free.

“This system is also odour, salt and stain free, which makes it ideal for water features and fountains,” says Tony Fisher, Waterco’s Division CEO, North America & Europe. “In addition, it’s easy to install – and the fact it is fully automated ensures it’s easy to maintain, without any guesswork.”

As evidenced by the Hurlingham Walk water feature, the result is crystal clear water of high clarity and quality – without any corrosion issues. “And this is the true benefit of the system – the less corrosive nature of the water in circulation. And that’s paramount in a feature of this nature and size,” Tony says. “Many water features are prone to algal blooms, and the Hydroxypure system means this isn’t a danger.”

Each of the 68 apartments in Hurlingham Walk has its own balcony or terrace that overlooks the central courtyard – and with the development spanning over six floors, there is certainly an audience to bear witness to the consistent water quality and lack of odours.

Hydroxypure system is the ideal solution for the centrally located water feature.

Tom Roberts, Project Manager at Fountains Direct, was responsible for the design and overview of the installation, and says they recommended the use of Hydroxypure in this instance because of its success in previous installations.

“Waterco provides us with an excellent range of high quality products – including Hydroxypure – which are suitable for our clients’ requirements, and they back this up with excellent customer service,” Tom says.

Sustainability is a key part of the ethos of the development group, St James, and it has made a long-term commitment to create sustainable, vibrant communities that enhance the surrounding area while minimising any adverse environmental impact. These values lie at the heart of Hurlingham Walk – and the Hydroxypure system is thus the ideal solution for the centrally located water feature.

For the Hurlingham project, the Hydroxypure system was paired with a Lacron 24” LSR sand filter. These filters are specifically designed for light to medium commercial installations. The main tank structure is made from hard wearing glass reinforced polyester and the smooth, high gloss internal and external finish ensures free flow and easy cleaning.
